Mass Iftaar 2016

A Saturday evening of happiness and kindness

Saturday, the 25th of June - there’s a feeling in the air. A feeling of excitement and anticipation as members of the mosque and Goodwood community file in after Asr to help with preparations. For what you ask - well, the mosque’s annual Mass Iftaar.

Every year the mosque successfully holds a mass iftaar during the month of Ramadan. But this year the mosque went the extra mile and invited a sizeable 96 orphans, their housemothers and 21 mothers belonging to a shelter.

This was the largest size the mosque had ever invited, but with the combined efforts of the mosque, madrassah and community, it was a huge success.

This year however, the Representative Council of Learners (RCL) of the madrassah, decided to pitch in and help - by starting a winter collection drive. Through this initiative, they collected boxes upon boxes of non-perishable foods and throughout that Saturday, they worked laboriously by sorting and designating boxes to the various orphanages and homes that would be present that evening. May Allah reward all who contributed towards that effort.

When the guests had arrived , the mosque filled with happy faces and a great warmth. Whilst backstage, volunteers worked hastily sort food items and to pack the last of the non-perishable foods into boxes.

Before “boeka-time” various learned individuals delivered great advice and led the in various nasheed and duah.

After everyone broke their fast, Maghrib salaah and suppertime was done in congregation.
Just before Esha, the RCL presented the boxes of non-perishable foods, toiletries and party packs to the various orphanages and homes.

It was a splendid occasion and may Allah be pleased with all who made it work, whether it be through donation, assistance or merely duah. And may next year’s one be even bigger and better ! - article by Zahraa  Schroeder
